Re: [computer-tech-support: 8395] partitions crowded in Windows 7 and a huge file

  1. I don't use windows 7 but i think if you open the "Computer" or File Explorer or w/e, it shows the windows partition with a small windows logo on the top left side of the partition logo.
  2. About the 2nd windows partition, well I'm not sure, it kinda depends on which drive has the boot loader i guess, so i can't tell for sure, u're going to need someone else to answer that for u.
  3. About the factory.wim, well i suspected it's a recovery image and a lil searching i found that yea it is, it probably has all the drivers and it also has your recovery windows image in case any thing goes wrong, it's really recommended that you don't do any thing to that image, cause sooner or later you'll probably gonna need to use it.

Hello,

A friend gave me a laptop (Dell Vostro 3300) with Windows both of them
with a  Professional.  At the time, it was not working, due to a
virus.  I got rid of the virus and now the computer works.

There are three partitions, two of them with a "Windows" directory,
"Program Files", etc.  (The third partition is not used; it is ready
for an alternative OS.  There is NOT any OS option at bootup; it just
goes to Windows.)

I have very little experience with Windows 7.  Can someone help me
figure out the answers to  these questions:

1.  How can I tell whether the machine is booting to the C: partition
or the D: partition?

2.  Can I delete the "Windows" directory from the other (i.e. non-
boot) partition without causing a catastrophe?

3.  The C: partition is 14 GB and it's crammed full.  I'd like to
clear out some space.  The biggest file is C:DELL/Image/Factory.wim .
That file is 5 GB !!!  I don't know what that is for -- but if I don't
need it, that's the first file to get deleted.  What is this file?

All answers and any other advice will be appreciated.
