There are a couple of ways to format a HDD. First of all backup all your useful files and folders safely. Then,
you may do one of the following:
1. Reinstall your operating system and at the beginning you will have the option to format.
2. Replace the existing HDD with another compatible one. Mount the old HDD in an enclosure to use it as
an external USB Drive. Install the O/S in the new drive. Connect the old HDD through the USB and format
it.
3. If your present HDD has a recovery partition (like D Drive), you can bring back your HDD to factory settings
and there you have an option to format while restoring.
