I don't say that this is the problem, i think somehow the computer is trying to access one of the removable disks that is not inserted or not ready ( CD without a CD inside, card reader without a memory card in it, etc.. )
If you want to fix your sound driver you could get on the hardware manager and uninstall all the uninstallable sound drivers then scan again to let the computer detect the hardware and try to install them again.
Could you list more cases that generate that same error, it could help us determine better what's the problem.

Hi, I've got a bit of a strange query I think.
My computer gives me an error message of "disc not ready" not randomly
or all the time, but for example when I have the sound enabled for AIM
messenger, or as I've just discovered when opening up a new game,
which I would assume would normally play a sound.
Because of this I suspect my sound card driver needs updating, it's a
RealTek AC97, however, I don't seem to be able to find a legit driver
to update to online at least.
So I guess I have two questions...
1. Is my theory likely to be correct and updating the driver could
solve all problems.
2. Where on earth do I find a version of the updated driver that
doesn't require me to download one of these "scan your PC for XXX
amount of money" things which usually manage to install a virus/mess
up the computer worse than ever?
I'm using Windows XP umm.. any other information needed please ask and
I'll do my best to find it out. I'm a bit of a computer newbie in case
it wasn't obvious.
Thanks in advance for any help at all.
Reb.
