[computer-tech-support: 8187] analog to digital?

I have a Dell 8400 running XP(SP3) with nviada geforce6800 with the
most
recent update. Using windows movie maker with a vcr connected and
turned on (3 color connection to vcr, jack in yellow port) I get: a
video capture device was not detected message. Help? I am trying to
copy family vhs movies to my hard drive.
