This particular Windows stop usually occurs when the windows registry is damaged.
you will need to copy the restore point copies of the registry. The best way for non-technical people is to boot up
on a 'live' cd to do the copy (and rename since in the directory where the restore points are kept they have been renamed (for example - _LOCAL_MACHINE_SOFTWARE which is the SOFTWARE registry hive, or _LOCAL_MACHINE_SYSTEM which is the SYSTEM hive) during the
restore point capture process.

One such 'live' cd you could use is Hirens BootCD. do a google search for 'download Hirens BootCD' to download the iso which you could then burn (of course you would need to do this on another PC) and boot up to do the copies.
