Ok i understand what you mean, there used to be like an old favorites list on the top, and a recently viewed groups list, well Google did few changes, if you notice there's a new nav bar on the top that was designed to be maintained through most of google apps for example gmail,docs,reader,groups,and even the profile page, but code.google.com for example still has the old menu in there and you still can find the starred projects on a favorites list.

I don't think you can get that list back by anyway, there's 2 alternate ways, either go back to groups home (a link on the top left says go home) or switch to the new groups view that was introduced not so long ago (https://groups.google.com/forum/) it's mostly based on new ajax requests so it should be faster and you will have a 'my groups' list and 'favorite groups' list, but for the old list, i'm sorry but it's gone.
