- LED DIY – How to Make an Animated LED Brick Wall! - 2011-05-16 10:39:04-04
Here’s just a simply awesome LED DIY project you can do for your home and impress your friends, learn how to make an animated LED brick wall! This system uses Arduino, I2C protocol, and PC application to control it. This would be wonderful if you could control it with your Android phone. The total of 121 BlinkM’s are divided into 2 blocks: 1 block of 6 horizontal ‘strands’, and 1 block of 5 horizontal ‘strands’. This is done because of the limitation of the I2C protocol/hardware. Each horizontal strand has it’s own I2C driver. I used the NXP PCA9512AD for this. When the PC Application is opened, the user has the option of selecting the 2 COM ports the Arduino’s are connected to. The the program is able to drive the ‘strands’ through the Arduino’s (with modified firmware). The Arduino’s then drive the ‘strands’ through the I2C (NXP) drivers. Besides looking cool with your custom animations, LEDs use barely any power at all, even leaving this on all day long probably use less energy than a single halogen bulb. I will have to make my own soon. via hackaday This post LED DIY – How to Make an Animated LED … Continue readingThis post LED DIY – How to Make an Animated LED Brick Wall! was originally from zedomax.com
- Segway Golf Carts! - 2011-05-16 11:06:03-04
You know, I really, really love golf because I’ve been playing for over 20+ years and this latest Segway will be the most awesome addition to golfers everywhere in the world, the Segway Golf Cart! Why? Well, golf carts aren’t exactly the best things to drive around the golf course because you seat two people and sometimes you have to go back and forth between the two people’s shots. With the Segway golf cart, every individual golfer will be able to help speed up the play of golf by having their own transportation. Besides that, this is probably great for the golf course itself as the Segway golf cart comes with special low-pressure turf tires that put less pressure on the ground than conventional golf carts. And think about this, you could probably go more places with the Segway where golf carts can’t like small paths, through the trees, etc…etc… Not sure how long it will take but I think these Segway golf carts will eventually make their way to eventually replace all golf carts out there. Too bad, it’s only available in UK right now. Enjoy the road less travelled with the Segway x2 Turf. It's rugged, tough … Continue readingThis post Segway Golf Carts! was originally from zedomax.com

- Top Five coolest items made from Lego! - 2011-05-16 23:37:47-04
It seems to me that no matter where you happen to be looking these days, Lego pops up in all sorts of shapes, sizes and designs. It is strange that something originally designed as a toy, can with a bit of thought and consideration become a useful, practical of just an interesting concept. Therefore, I have gathered some of the best ideas around at the moment, which use Lego as a base or as an inspiration to create something interesting. These items below are what we feel are five of the coolest Lego gadgets around, check them out and let us know what you think! The Lego 110 Felt Tip Printer This is really taking Lego, which of course is traditionally a children's toy to another level beyond the limits of building model cars and houses. This is where Lego actually becomes something original and of course super cool! This printer is connected to an Apple Mac and uses felt tip pens for the ink source! According to the builder horseattack, he said; “Lego felt tip 110″ printer connected to an Apple Mac. This is not mind storms, I designed/built/coded it all from scratch including analog motor electronics, sensors and … Continue readingThis post Top Five coolest items made from Lego! was originally from zedomax.com
- DIY Shower Timer! - 2011-05-17 02:19:40-04
Here’s an interesting project that uses Arduino and RFID to measure how long you spend in the shower. Instead of using a water-flow sensor (which would be overkill), Paul Asselin has made a simple RFID waving feature to tell the sensor when he starts/stops showering. I think this is a neat idea because you could probably just install the RFID on the shower door to detect when you get in the shower and out. I chose to use an Arduino because it's my favorite platform and I could program and debug quickly (actually within 5 to 6 hours after starting on the same day). The RFID would detect the proximity of my card (which can be handled with wet hands) and start the timer. When I'm done, I simply wave it again and tell the timer to stop. The duration is then uploade to the website's API section via the ethernet shield. Yes, I am pretty lucky to have a powerand ethernet port not too far from my bathroom! via hackedgadgets This post DIY Shower Timer! was originally from zedomax.com Arduino, Circuits, diy shower timer, Featured, Featured DIYs, Featured Gadgets, Featured Hacks, Gadgets, MicrocontrollerThis post DIY Shower Timer! was originally from zedomax.com

- DIY Smartphone Dot Matrix Printer! - 2011-05-17 09:51:25-04
I still remember the first printer I had back in 1989, it was “color” dot-matrix printer, top-of-the-line and cost me(or my dad) couple hundred bucks. It was so cool to see bunch of MS-DOS text printed in color, those were the days you rejoiced because you had 256 different colors and printing one page took only a minute. Well, here’s a cool DIY project to remind you of that, a DIY smartphone dot-matrix printer (sorta) that you have to hold manually. Actually it’s more like art and prints your SMS text messages big on the wall. Here’s the video of the DIY smartphone dot-matrix printer in action! via make This post DIY Smartphone Dot Matrix Printer! was originally from zedomax.com Circuits, DIY, DIY, dot matrix printer, Featured, Featured DIYs, Featured Gadgets, Featured Hacks, Gadgets, Hack, HOWTO, Microcontroller, Printer, Projects, smartphoneThis post DIY Smartphone Dot Matrix Printer! was originally from zedomax.com
