- Comedy: Getting to Know Nick Kroll - 2011-04-26 13:00:17-04
Nick Kroll is one of my favorite stand ups right now. Not only is he great on stage, he’s a good addition to the FX show The League, and his characters are classic on the Comedy Death Ray Podcast. Check out a few of Nick’s greatest laughs: Nick Kroll standup on Jimmy Kimmel Live This appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live is a great intro to Kroll’s humor, which is mostly just absurd voices and silliness. “It’s a square fish.” Ed Hardy Boyz Bobby Bottleservice, one half of the Ed Hardy Boyz, is one of my favorite Nick Kroll characters. He’s Jersey. But he’s awesome. I love when he shows up on CDR, but he’s also great in his series on Funny or Die. Breaking the 4th wall In this interview with Marc Maron for his WTF podcast, Nick Kroll performs as El Chupacabra, and his baby caller. Chupacabra is probably Kroll’s second best character. But watching him create the voices on camera is a rare treat. Cat-to-Dog Here’s a new invention from Nick Kroll, who is allergic to cats but loves dogs. This is how you get past the cat problem with a dog ray. Catsare the Worst Nick continues … Continue reading
- Photoshop Tutorial – How to Make a Simple 3D Button in 5 Minutes! - 2011-04-26 17:17:44-04
I’ve been learning Photoshop for years (and I didn’t go to school or anything like that, just picked up things here and there) and I think I’ve gotten pretty good at it, not completely professional but I can make a 3D button in just a minute or so. Anyways, it’s not that hard to do, let me show you how to make a very simple and basic 3D button in just 5 minutes of your time: First, open up Photoshop. (duh!) Next, hit Ctrl+N to create a new image. Make sure you start learning all the shortcuts in Photoshop, it will make your life easier. For image size, I used 500×500 pixels here: And I like to start out with Resolution of 300 pixels/inch, this is because you can have a higher-quality image in the end plus you can always crop/downsize it later. Next, let’s make our button a rounded rectangle, I think it looks nicer so go select on “Rounded Rectangle Tool”. Use the Rounded Rectangle Tool to make your desired shape like I did. Next you can use the text tool to put something on there, like “Press Me”. Next, go to your layers and select the Rounded … Continue reading
- Photoshop/CSS Tutorial – How to Make a 3D Button that you Can Press! - 2011-04-26 18:11:53-04
In this Photoshop slash CSS tutorial, I am going to show you how to make a 3D button that you can actually press down on when you hover over it (or when you actually click on it if you want). This is actually a trick I used to use all the time while designing websites and it can really spice up your website. (Why do I not use it on this blog? Well, my blog has a ton of blog posts and it runs on 4 web servers, if I put too many graphics, it will come to a screeching halt and the site would be a lot slower even though it’s slow already.) First, you will need to make a 3D button, you can read up How to Make a Simple 3D Button and make that first. Next, we are going to re-use that 3D button but first, let’s “crop” it so you have just the button, not all the white spaces. Next, lets use the Rectangular Marquee Tool to crop the button, just use your common sense and crop with some space. See, me cropping? You can also use the Trim tool but for this tutorial purpose, let’s … Continue reading

- The Top Five Gadgets out our price range - 2011-04-28 02:20:57-04
When we talk of gadgets and technology, we often think of items that are around the $200 mark, they could be up to a $1,000 but mostly we are talking sub $200. However, it seems that some designers and manufacturers are raising the bar to a point beyond our budgets; these are the gadgets that we cannot afford! The gadgets below are almost guaranteed to send your bank manager into shock, should you be tempted by any the gadgets below. Just out of interest, my personal favourite happens to the single seater helicopter, at $30,000 it does not seem to be too badly priced either, but you do only get around an hours flight from a full five gallon tank of fuel. These are the just some of the most expensive gadgets around that we are not likely to ever buy; Magnetic Floating Bed This bed was supposed to have been six years in the making; it finally appeared at the Millionaire Fair (Where Else!). The bed floats on a bed of air; it is lifted by magnets and can take around nine hundred kilos in weight. - Comedy Queen: Getting to Know Tina Fey - 2011-04-28 11:15:56-04
In honor of the Google Authors talk that’s making the round this week, I thought it would be fitting to take a look at Tina Fey over time. Of course there is ton of great stuff from SNL, Mean Girls and 30 Rock. But how about the real Fey, let’s get to know her. (That’s a little creepy sounding… I don’t mean it that way Tina.) With Google’s Eric Schmidt This hour-long interview with Google CEO Eric Schmidt is an amazing look at Fey’s perspective on the media, life and comedy. Despite it’s long playtime, this interview is compelling and really fresh. Of course, many of the stories seem to be material from the book. But Fey can make most anything funny, and her explanation of the rift between men and women in comedy is priceless. On the Palin Character In this Letterman appearance, Fey explains her Palin impression, breaking down the voice, and the impact of the impression on the politics. She also takes on the claim that her Palin impression was sexist. I love how well she can make an argument and then back it up with jokes. Snappy Answers to Short Questions In this short clip, Fey … Continue reading

- How to Fix Your Site Rankings If Google Panda Has Deranked your Website into an Oblivion! - 2011-04-29 09:58:02-04
In the recent months, I’ve been noticing less traffic coming to all of my blogs from Google. Anyways, I thought it was because my site had too many ads or perhaps my content was “low-quality”. Well, for about the last 2 or 3 weeks, I coudn’t figure it out, why are my rankings on Google tanking? I even tried using Google Webmaster to see if I can get some answers directly from Google themself but no, I got an automated reply with a link to Quality Guidelines. Anyways, I FIGURED OUT what Google Panda update is doing! Google Panda is basically “deranking” any websites that have any of their articles scraped by content scrapers. Then the worst part, Google Panda ranks those scraper sites #1 for your article’s title or if you search 2-3 sentences of it. (Here’s two examples #1 and #2). For example, if you had an article A and you let some RSS feed site host the same article A on their website, your website/article got deranked into an oblivion. I’ve also checked out many websites at Google Forum and found that exact same thing is happening to them. Some of them are indeed low-quality and have … Continue reading
- The Web's Best Cats: A Cat Retrospective - 2011-04-29 12:37:30-04
Well folks, it’s my last day on Zedomax for a while. I’ll be taking a little break to focus on a few other projects, but wanted to share a special collection today. So, with that in mind, here’s the cat videos that make my world turn. Box Cat This cat is my all-time favorite. I think he has a name, but I always call him box cat. I love him. He just loves boxes and the frog-leg run-and-smash move. So classic. Sleepy Cat This little guy is so tired. He wants to stay awake and play but he just cant. Snooze, little kitty, snooze. Simon’s Cat Simon’s Cat is a wonderful web series with the exploits and adventures of a standard house cat who thinks with his tummy and likes to make trouble. So funny. Sneaky Cat Everytime the camera goes behind the wall, the kitty sneaks closer. I love it. I love him. Sneaky cat is sneaky. Water Cat This little guy playing in the tub makes me wish my cat would get in the tub. Why can’t all cats take to water like this guy. Well friends, it’s been fun this time around. I hope Zedomax continues to … Continue readingThis post The Web’s Best Cats: A Cat Retrospective was originally from zedomax.com
- President Obama Making Announcement Soon that Osama Bin Laden is Dead. - 2011-05-01 23:13:43-04
President Obama, who’s name rhymes with Osama (I would just guess that was a coincidence), will be announcing that Osama Bin Laden is dead, finally. Up above it the video from the white house embedded, it’s supposed to have aired half an hour ago but I guess there’s some delay at the White House. What does this mean to the tech world? Not much but I thought we’d take a break from the tech world on this lonely Sunday night and watch what our President has to say. Hey, at least now we know the world’s craziest dictator who killed thousands of innocent people is dead. Normally, I don’t feel happy about people dying but for this, I am staying up to watch Obama’s speech, it will be interesting I think. Hey, someone’s gotta stop the crazies, otherwise we’d be hidin’ our wives and our kids. - AT&T Atrix 4G Speed Test! - 2011-05-02 17:01:01-04
Wondering how fast AT&T’s new 4G network is? Well, I’ve got proof here to show you how fast it is. Download speeds average around 2-3Mbps, not bad but the bad part is that your upload speeds never go above 400kbps in my testings. Also, AT&T is very spotty for both 3G and 4G. Sometimes, I get crawling speeds of 300-500kbps download even with full bars and sometimes I get 2-3Mbps. That is actually problem with all the 4G networks but Sprint’s WiMax 4G and Verizon’s LTE are better in my experience. For example, if I am in a mall, Sprint’s 4G still works while my AT&T Atrix 4G and T-Mobile G2 craps out. If you are looking for a good 4G phone, I would highly recommend Sprint of Verizon. Plus, AT&T and T-Mobile’s 4G isn’t really 4G, it’s just HSDPA+, compared to “real” 4G technologies that WiMax and LTE uses. WiMax and LTE are official 4G, AT&T and T-Mobile is just fake 4G marketed as 4G.
