  1. Top Five Computer Case Mods - 2011-05-26 23:42:24-04

When you look at the rows of computers in the local PC store, they all follow the same shape and style, which can be a bit boring especially as some people like to show off their individuality and so this calls for computer case mod! I have brought together my top five computer case mods here, these are as diverse as they are unusual, in fact a computer case mod is one way of showing that you are not going to be put into box and conform to the norm, some of these mods are just simply too good to miss. The X Style computer case This is something that has been designed and built for the fans of the Xbox 360, X Men or maybe even the X Factor! However, whatever the X that these fans follow, this computer mod, which has been designed and built by PYPE, would allow them to express their love and admiration for anything X! If only it was in production! Here are some of the basics that this X style computer case mod; Foxconn's nForce 590 SLI motherboard, a Gigabyte GeForce 7950 GX2, water-cooled CPU along with an Athlon 64 FX-62 and 2GB … Continue reading

  2. DSLR Hack – How to Make a Long-Range DIY DSLR Video Trigger! - 2011-05-27 02:30:05-04

DSLR videography has literally exploded in the last couple years and I am a huge fan (you can read up on my DSLR videography recommendations here); here’s a great hack that can let you trigger video on your Canon DSLR by hacking the IR controller with Arduino so you can turn the video on/off from up to 150-300 feet range. I had a problem that I needed to solve: Remotely and wireless-ly trigger the video recording on my Canon 60D DSLR camera, non-line of sight, from further than an IR remote would allow. This would eliminate a lot of dead footage when shooting solo or when you want to be in the shot with other people. As anyone who has looked into this knows, there are NO commercially available systems (or even really any hacked together non-commercial systems that I could find) available for doing this. Still pictures, no problem, but Canon doesn’t have a way to do that for video without an IR remote (which is about 10ft, line of sight range). I looked into what I had (both materials and skillset), and decided on building a solution. This should work on any Canon DSLR that shoots video (T2i, … Continue reading

  3. HTC CEO Announces No Locked Bootloaders on Android Devices! - 2011-05-27 09:37:01-04

My first HTC smartphone purchase was back in around 2006, it was a really crappy XDA-type of Windows phone that was just bulky and slow as it could ever be. Well, after using Nexus One, HTC Evo 4G, and my HTC G2 Phone, I am quite convinced that HTC has come a long way and impressed with the quality Android smartphones they can produce now.  I would say HTC tops all other manufacturers right now including Motorola and Samsung for Android smartphones. I think the main reason behind this is that HTC got on Android first before anyone else, start with the original Google Phone, G1 Phone. Anyways, HTC CEO just announced no more locked bootloaders, meaning it will be easier for people to root their phones and install new ROMs.  Cool, I wish Motorola would do this soon. ‎”There has been overwhelmingly customer feedback that people want access to open bootloaders on HTC phones. I want you to know that we’ve listened. Today, I’m confirming we will no longer be locking the bootloaders on our devices. Thanks for your passion, support and patience,” Peter Chou, CEO of HTC via bgr This post HTC CEO Announces No Locked Bootloaders on … Continue reading

  6. Best 55-inch LED TV Right Now? - 2011-05-31 12:17:28-04

I’ve been personally been looking for the largest LED TV size I can afford under $1,500 but with the latest features such as web access.   Well, there’s a slew of great 46″ LED TVs out there for about $1,000-1200 range but the problem them is that they come with too many features such as 3D, which I would gladly wait couple years before upgrading as I am still currently on my 46″ DLP TV I bought back in 2004 for $2,300.  I would rather sacrifice the 3D features I don’t need and get a larger 55″ LCD TV.  Lo and behold I found a great 55″ LED LCD TV, not just LCD but it also comes with SmartTV, which I was willing to sacrifice to get a bigger-sized TV. Anyways, I think I have found the one, this 55-inch LG Infinia LV5500 LED TV with SmartTV, which I got to see at CES 2011 this year.  This isn’t the top-of-the-line LG LED TV but it is one of the newer and better with WiFi-module embedded for quick access to YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, and wirelessly streaming from your computer. The price?  The price is right, you have to add it … Continue reading

  7. Affordable Wireless Motion-Sensing LED Floodlight! - 2011-05-31 12:39:37-04

Problem with most traditional wired floodlights is that they must be “wired” and that means drilling holes in the walls of your home and that can sometimes be bad (if you install it wrong).  Besides that, you might actually spend more money as for most motion-sensing wired floodlights are in the $100-200 range. But why bother with all that when you can get these Wireless Motion-Sensing LED floodlights (that run on three D batteries for a year) and install them everywhere around your house without drilling holes? These wireless LED floodlights also are bright as they run on batteries and only turns on at night. I’ve also done my research (not just bs-ing here), there are also solar wireless LED floodlights out there.  Most solar LED lights in general are not recommended for floodlights as solar panels are still way too expensive in proportion to the amount of power they generate.  Unless you want to install a full-size solar panels on your roof, solar LED floodlights are simply not cost effective at this point.  This might change in 2-3 years but I’ve already spent $300 on some solar LED floodlights at my local Home Depot, only to return them all … Continue reading

Instead of opening/closing your screen door (which I am sure your toddlers and pets have a hard time doing), you can install this simple magnetic screen door so you keep the bugs out but let your kids and pets freely walk in/out. Magnetic Screen Door is available on Amazon starting at $34.97. Also, make sure you get the “correct” size.  My first order I got the wrong size for my door and had to return it.
