Solway Deskew Lets You Deskew Scanned Images of Documents & Text Pages

What is the easiest way to get paper documents in electronic form? Scanners! Obviously. But even scanners can not fix the problem of skewed documents being scanned with a slant. Parsing those skewed documents by OCR's can be tough because of the tiniest of orientation in characters and text can lead to lower character recognition accuracy rate and printing such scanned documents is a bad idea.

Well now the good news is that skewed documents can be taken care of by using a software. So one such freeware tool is Solway's Deskew, which lets you to take care of the skewed documents.

Solway's Deskew does that by taking the scanned document picture as input and producing the copy of deskewed picture in the specified output directory. The good thing is that this tool is not at all big and is less than 1 MB in size. It supports a lot of document picture formats like BMP, JPG, PNG, MNG, JNG, GIF, DDS, TGA, PBM, PGM, PPM, PAM, PFM) and also allows you to output in BMP, JPG, PNG, MNG, JNG, GIF, DDS, TGA, PGM, PPM, PAM, PFM.

To begin Deskewing you have to browse and select skewed scanned document and set the output directory where you wish to save the output.

Specifying the angle can be done from the maximum skew angle setting. If the pictures are skewed more than this amount, they will not be deskewed. But most of the pictures of scanned pages would only be skewed by a few degrees. The speed of the deskewing process depends on this figure so this means that larger the figure, more angles have to be checked and the result would be a slower process. The default is 10 degrees.

Threshold: Utilize Threshold setting when there is not much contrast between the text and background. use the default setting for normal black text on white background. When you are done then click on deskew to begin the process of deskewing.

Picture given below shows the compared the result.
