Re: [computer-tech-support: 8312] Monitor cutting off after signal is finally detected

Looks like a power supply issue in the monitor. Probably a capacitor reaching the end of its life.

For the past few weeks, I've had a problem with my monitor (Gateway
FPD1975W TFT LCD Monitor HD Display) experiencing a long delay before
cutting on.  It would take forever for it to read "Gateway Signal
Detected" then finally cut on and work fine until the next time I cut
it off again.  Then the same thing would repeat.

Only today, the problem got worse. When after another long delay, a
signal finally reached for the monitor to cut on, it came on with a
beautiful picture display as ever but only for a few seconds then go
black again.  I unplugged the monitor's AC power chord, then replugged
it back in and the signal would instantly get detected again with the
monitor cutting on with a beautiful display as ever but only for a few
seconds then cut back off again.

I thought perhaps there was something in the PC causing this so I
unplugged the monitor's VGA cable from the back of the PC and plugged
the cable into another PC and the exact same thing happened on the
other computer as well.

So using the exact same monitor VGA cable, I hooked my computer up to
my Widescreen TV (since it has a VGA input) and now I can see what I
am doing on the computer while using the TV as a display.

But the monitor is sitting useless.

Any idea what is going on?  Is the life of this monitor over and
gone?  Why is it that I can see a beautiful picture just for a few
seconds when a signal is detected then nothing?

So, I'm writing about the problems my computer has been having lately. It all started about a week or so ago. Everything was working fine until all of a sudden all of my files disappeared. I ran an "unhide" script afterward which made all the files visible again but the computer has been very messed up since. Can you help me with this?
