The cloud for storage

2010-09-02 08:00:59-04

By now most people know that the cloud is a place on the internet where files, documents and images, so that this stuff is not stored on any one computer or hard drive, but the message appears to have got blurred with this cool design for the cloud.

It seems that this is the cloud and it can be used for storage, but not quite as we imaged it to be, the message appears to have been "Lost in Translation".

Typewriter Hack – How to Make a USB Typewriter Keyboard!

2010-09-02 08:20:08-04

For those of you who “must” have the feel of touching a real typewriter when you use your computer and browse the interwebs, here’s a suggestion, go make a DIY USB typewriter keyboard!

Not only will your wife be annoyed everytime you e-mail someone, she will probably divorce you for working late nights and not letting her fall asleep.

Wait, should we change the post headline to “How to Get a Divorce by Annoying Wife?”  Okay, it could be the other way too you know, don’t be a sexist.

The Babel Fisk Glasses

2010-09-02 09:00:42-04

Imagine being able read lips, without actually having the skills to do it naturally would not that be something worth having, well with these glasses designed by Mads Hindhede and named Babel Fisk you can do just that.

The glasses they pick up the voice through two microphones at the front of the glasses, this is run through some specialist software and the translation to text is projected onto the inside of the lens.

These are the details for the smart designer glasses that turns speech into text:

BabelFisk is essentially speech recognition software tied in with hearing aid algorithms that help recognize speech in the midst of white noise. Once words are heard, they're converted to text on the fly. Embedded controllers turn this heavy task into an easily manageable one, while 2 microphones work together to show which direction the sound is coming from.

UFO on Tape!

2010-09-02 10:00:38-04

It may sound like a movie from the eighties, but in actual fact it's not a movie, it is a free to download game, all you have to do is keep the video on the UFO as it flies around the city.

The graphics are not up to much and the sound is bit up and down but this is a free game, so maybe we shouldn't be expecting too much. In fact, this is game with the style of an old 8 bit game so it's a bit of fun and not to be missed.

These are just some of the details from which the you can get an idea on the UFO game:

My first finished game. Made for the “No Buttons” Experimental Gameplay Project´s challenge. You are in a car recording a UFO in the sky. Keep it inside the frame as long as you can.

The mug boss organiser

2010-09-02 12:00:38-04

For the messy desk owner there is the mug boss, this takes a retired coffee mug and turns into some useful storage and organising space. The design is based on the belt that builders wear to keep their tools in, except with this tidy gadget the user gets to put all of those annoying little bits of stuff away in an organised way.

Do something useful with your old office mug with this Mug Boss:

Slap a Mug Boss around your least favourite mug and it is now a mega-strong receptacle for all your desk gear. Made with the same tough construction and materials as its larger contractor-grade cousin the Bucket Boss, the brawny Mug Boss is ready to be used and abused. It has twelve durable pockets, which can hold almost anything (pens, screwdrivers, laser pointers, paper clips, Bawls Mints, ad infinitum). Larger items can go directly into the mug itself. To top it off, a hook and loop closure holds the whole thing secure (it fastens through the mug handle). Buy it, use it, love it – just please don’t call it an "office tool."

Stop the dog from barking

2010-09-02 13:00:40-04

A dog barking can really grind you down and neighbours down, so it is something that should be addressed before it goes too far. Sure, there are some things around that are not very nice, but this device is humane as it merely uses sound to correct the dog's bad habit.

The device just needs to be place somewhere central in the home and should the dog bark the device begins to emit a high pitched sound that only the dog can hear and therefore associates the sound with barking. This should teach the dog to stop barking in the home.

These are the features and details for the dog barking deterrent:

The dog quickly associates its bark with the unpleasant sound, which conditions him to curb this undesirable behaviour. The unit can also be activated manually to help you correct a dog’s other bad habits, such as lying on furniture or foraging through the trash. Requires one 9-volt battery that provides power for two months; an LED indicates battery life. For indoor use only. 3″ H x 5″ W x 2 1/2″ D. (8 oz.)

Here’s another Starcraft 2 Challenge Tutorial. This one’s for Tactical Command, the first challenge lever. It’s an easier level, but I figured it should be up here at Zedomax, just in case.

The autonomous cleaning robot

2010-09-02 14:00:33-04

Want a clean room without actually having to clean up yourself, then maybe this autonomous robot is the thing to have; it can be pre-programmed to clean up the room when there is nobody around. It uses a similar system like GPS to find its way around the room. It can run for up to three hours on one charge, this could be enough time to clean up around a 1,000 sq ft, this is cut down to 250 sq ft if the device is set to wet mop.

These are the features for the autonomous floor cleaner:

Similar to GPS, the included palm-sized terrestrial satellite sets up on a table or countertop and emits a signal that systematically guides the robotic cleaner through the room until it has covered the entire space. On-board sensors ensure the device avoids furniture, area rugs, and stairs and its rectangular cleaning head reaches into corners, along baseboards, and under furniture to thoroughly clean hard-to-reach areas. The device cleans for up to three hours and covers up to 1,000′ sq. as a dry sweeper; two hours and 250′ sq. as a wet mop. Recharges via AC adapter (included) in 12 hours. Satellite uses two C batteries (included). Includes three machine washable cloths. 9 2/3″ D x 8 1/2″ W x 3″ H. (4 lbs.)

New Movie Trailer: Decade of Disturbed

2010-09-02 14:30:56-04

Has it really been ten years? WHOOAHHH-OOH-AHH. Oh my. But, if you are into mainstream metal, this is the movie for you. A tour documentary on the rock band Disturbed. Are you down with the sickness? I’m unsure, myself. Check it out:

From Apple:

Why has Disturbed persevered for over a decade as the entire face of the music industry has shifted and changed, resulting in so many bands they came up with dropping off, and falling by the wayside? Because, through years of countless tours, dedication & sacrifice, and the delivery of four critically acclaimed albums, Disturbed created a very unique fan base, all of which was born with the Sickness. This feature documentary, made with the band’s close collaboration, tracks their amazing story.
