Re: [computer-tech-support: 8305] Trouble renaming media files

well, i'll assume that you remove the extension by mistake, so i want to ask you something to make sure if that's the case or not, did you try to do right click -> open with -> media player for example to one of the files that were corrupted ? does it play when you do that or not ?
do you rename them from windows explorer normally like any other file?

i have windows home installed on my home pc, and lately when i try to
rename media files like music and movies it corrupts them, in such a
way that no media player can play them; except for VLC media player.
what could be causing this, and how can i fix it and prevent it from
happening again?
